Shipyard is a gated community with limited access. It is characterized by a heavily wooded landscape and is a quiet place. It is home to Van der Meer tennis university and racquet club and the Crown Plaza resort hotel.

The Shipyard golf club offers three 9 hole courses where golfers can customize their experience by selecting combinations of two courses to play.

At the Crown Plaza end of Shipyard is a beach with limited parking but easy bike access. One entrance to Shipyard is quite close to the Coligny area, the Island's main tourist area and public beach. The other is on William Hilton Parkway (US 278).

These spacious and somewhat secluded vacation properties have on site swimming pools and are less than a mile to the beach. In fact, Beachwalk and The Greens are just 1 to 2 blocks from the Atlantic Ocean. Evian, Shipmaster, Waterford are close to the Shipyard Golf Course and have on-site tennis. Townhouse Tennis and Shipmaster condos enjoy lagoon and fairway views with on-site tennis as well.
